World Ovarian Cancer Day, 8. May 2022

Every year in May, the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation hosts the traditional World Ovarian Cancer Day in Berlin. The colorful information and action day draws attention to the rare and still tabooed disease ovarian cancer. Every year 7400 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat worldwide. Studies show that the quality of treatment greatly affects prognosis. The World Ovarian Cancer Day on Sunday, May 8th, 2022 makes the voices of those affected and the research community heard. In-depth lectures on the latest therapeutic approaches will be presented and combined with supportive topics, as well as creative contributions.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, World Ovarian Cancer Day has taken place in a digital format. The multi-hour broadcast had more than 1000 viewers online. In addition, we were able to celebrate the traditional “Parade against Ovarian Cancer” at the Berlin Lustgarten with affected people and relatives in 2021. This year, with major restrictions lifted, we expect an even bigger turn-up! So join us on the 8th of May to parade against ovarian cancer. When and Where? 2pm. at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden 7.

Cooking against ovarian cancer

In 2022, the World Ovarian Cancer Day  focuses on “Nutrition and Cooking“. We are proud of this year’s collaboration with international chefs and nutrition experts. Celebrity chefs as well as food bloggers from different restaurants, cultures and Instagram channels will present their favorite dish – as a video podcast, blog post or photo contribution.

“Food has to do with social, physical and emotional well-being. The topic of nutrition is also about togetherness and joie de vivre,” says Prof. Dr. Jalid Sehouli, founder of the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation and Head of the Women’s Clinic at Charité Berlin. For this reason, the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation is calling on all interested parties, affected persons, relatives, friends, chefs, food bloggers and recreational cooks to make their favorite recipe available for re-cooking. The recipes will be published digitally, as well as in a selection as a book publication together with the star chefs.

Recipe “Tabouhle” from “Medical Cuisine” by Johann Lafer and Dr. Matthias Riedl for the German Ovary Cancer Foundation

All submitted recipes will be published in a digital “culinary treasure chest”. A selection of the recipes will be published in 2023 in a cookbook with articles on the topics of smelling and tasting, side effect management and quality of life. Various gourmets will select the most beautiful recipes for the joint book in aid of the projects of the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation within the framework of an academy. Send us your favorite recipe:

  • as picture (Jpg) or text (Word or Pdf) oder video (mp4)
  • to lisa.sintermann@avisomed.de
  • with quantity of ingredients (preferably metric system), portionsize, and your name
  • please tell us for backing recipes if convection oven or top & bottom heat is to be used and the degree (Celsius)
  • ingredients should be available at the conventional supermarket
