About our foundation
Ovarian cancer continues to be one of the most difficult diseases in medicine. Unfortunately, this is mostly diagnosed when the tumour is at a very advanced stage. The medical care situation is still not satisfactory. Although the overall prognosis has improved, too many patients are still dying from this disease.
The members of the Foundation want to change this and support all projects that maintain and improve the understanding, the treatment results in terms of tumour control and also the quality of life. The Foundation’s work focuses above all on the topics of information and education.
Twice a year the magazine “Die zweite Stimme” (The second voice) is published, also daily our facebook community “DIWA – Du, Ich, Wir, Alle – Gemeinsam gegen Eierstockkrebs” (You, I, We, All – together against ovarian cancer) offers information and tips in dealing with the disease as well as educational patient events offer direct contact with people affected.
Every year, to mark World Ovarian Cancer Day, the Foundation invites to a big event with a concluding demonstration march – this year on May 13, 2018under the motto “Writing against ovarian cancer”. The winners of our 1st literary competitionon the topic of “Life & Joy of Life” will also be announced there and the best contributions will be presented.
The Foundation is also touring Germany: since 2016, we have been running our own information series for patients, relatives and doctors on the subject of hereditary ovarian and breast cancer with the “BRCA Info Tour – BRCA and Ovarian Cancer”. In addition, another roadshow will start this year: under the title “Informed and creative”, the Foundation offers the participants not only information on ovarian cancer, but above all a workshop on “Creative, therapeutic writing”.
